With a foundation in economics and banking, Philip has specialised in Islamic real estate for the last ten years, bringing to 90 North considerable expertise in structuring and coordinating the numerous elements required to achieve a successful acquisition or sale.
He was most recently Executive Vice President, Head of Real Estate at wholly Shari’ah compliant Gatehouse Bank in London. Philip established the team and timing the recovery of the United Kingdom property market, concluded £209,000,000 of investment acquisitions in the office, student accommodation and manufacturing sectors since December 2009, on behalf of Gulf based investors.
Prior to that, Philip was Managing Director, Head of Investment Management, Europe for four years with HDG Mansur, fund manager for the Shari’ah compliant HSBC Amanah Global Properties Income Fund. As the United Kingdom real estate market started to peak, investments made earlier in the decade were exited in late 2006 and early 2007 achieving very attractive returns.
Philip started his career with Citigroup in the Risk Management department, becoming Risk Manager for the Austrian, French and Italian banks that Citigroup worked with, before moving into Citigroup Property Investors, successfully launching and investing two European Shari’ah compliant real estate funds in joint ventures with Gulf investors.
Philip achieved a BSc (Honours) 1st in Economics from the University of Bristol, is a holder of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments’ Islamic Finance Qualification and regularly speaks at conferences and seminars on Islamic real estate investment.
